Demo Walkthrough

The Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD Steam demo was the public practice range before the 24 September 2026 launch. Ironhide opened it with the Next Fest wave, extended it after hitting wishlist goals, then posted a farewell once the experiment had done its job. This walkthrough is for players who still want those lessons, not a claim that the demo stays downloadable forever.

If you never installed it, treat this page as a guided tour of the systems the full game still uses: four-then-more towers, two heroes, three starter spells, and Iron as a locked-build modifier.

What the demo contained

Ironhide’s own feature list for the first drop:

  • 4 of 18 campaign stages (later 6 after the extension)
  • 5 of 15 towers, then one extra tower in the extension
  • 2 of 12 heroes: Gerald Lightseeker and Zefira
  • 3 of 9 spells: Reinforcements, Rain of Fire, Royal Edict
  • Iron mode as a taste of the five-mode list
  • Extra challenge flavors in the extension, including Blitz and Spells Rush

Steam user reviews on the demo landed mixed (about 60% positive on a few hundred posts). The complaints that matter for launch-day play were UI clarity and the tower-level experiment. Ironhide answered those in later notes — Devlog #28 covers the UI and tower-level rework — so do not treat every demo gripe as final.

Stage order the demo taught

Play in this order even if you only have memories:

  1. Linirean Citadel — one job: rally Knights Order, click Gerald onto the choke, let archers farm gold.
  2. Silveroak Village / forest splits — two jobs: Zefira roams, Gerald holds. If both heroes follow the same wolf, the other lane leaks.
  3. Western Wall — artillery starts to matter. Catapults want long, predictable lines. Veteran videos of this map are long for a reason; see the campaign stages page for the wall-specific notes.
  4. Lozagon Tower — the set-piece. Nivus the Archwizard is the character Ironhide spotlighted here. Iron challenge clear videos exist; the Iron mode guide explains why you cannot rebuild mid-run.

The extension added two more stages and made the demo feel closer to a vertical slice of the three-region world map (Citadel greens, Stormcloud ice, Arcania autumn). The world map screenshot on this wiki is the 200k-wishlist reward layout, not a fan mockup.

Opening kit that still works

Demo players who three-starred Veteran usually did this:

  • Archer Garrison first for economy and flyers.
  • Knights Order on the choke before the first barracks-breaker wave.
  • Scholar Mage before heavy armor, not after.
  • Royal Catapult once two paths share a kill box.
  • Fifth tower (and the later extra) as a specialist, not a duplicate of the cheapest option.

That is still the beginner kit. The full 15-tower book — visible in the in-game encyclopedia as a four-by-four art grid — does not delete those four jobs. It adds sidegrades: Culverin for faster artillery personality, Elite Ranger for upgraded archery, Ironbark Treant for a grumpy stall-tree, and so on. Rank them on the tower tier list after you have a map, not in a vacuum.

Heroes the demo actually let you click

Only Gerald and Zefira were playable. The Heroes panel in later builds shows the rest of the twelve as portraits, but the demo’s lesson is pairing, not collecting.

  • Gerald: melee, shield, Sword of Elynie, hold the door.
  • Zefira: battlemage from the Academy, fights closer than a tower mage, delete the runner.

If you parked both on the same flag, you practiced the wrong game. Read two-hero system and the individual pages for Gerald and Zefira.

Modes that showed up in the slice

Veteran taught the campaign. Iron taught commitment. Blitz taught short, dense waves. Spells Rush taught you to win without heroes. Classic Mode is a separate 15th-anniversary rule-set that arrived in later marketing; it is not “the demo.” Use Classic Mode when you want the original four towers only.

What did not survive as a live download

Ironhide published “Saying Goodbye to the Kingdom Rush Genesis Demo.” Plan launch week around the full 18-stage map, 15 towers, 12 heroes, and 9 spells — not around reinstalling the Next Fest build. Progress questions (“does demo save carry?”) were already being asked in comment sections; until Ironhide posts a patch note, assume campaign progress starts fresh on 24 September 2026 and keep your notes on this wiki instead of a demo save file.

How to use demo VODs after launch

A YouTube Veteran clear of Western Wall still teaches pathing. It does not teach post-rework tower levels. Watch for:

  • Rally timing, not exact DPS numbers.
  • When the player saves Rain of Fire.
  • Whether the second hero is actually covering the split.

Then go play the launch build checklist and the upgrade planner. The demo was homework. Launch is the exam.
