Kingdom Rush 6 Genesis TD Getting Started in Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD
Open the first four towers, park two heroes, and keep three lives off the exit.
Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD is a prequel tower defense from Ironhide Game Studio. You fight in early Linirea, spend gold on towers, command two heroes at once, and try to stop a younger Vez’nan from twisting the kingdom’s future. The full campaign is scheduled for 24 September 2026 on Steam, iOS, and Android. This page is the first-hour checklist, not a lore dump.
If you already know the series, skim the new bits: dual heroes, global tower upgrades (back after Devlog #28), and challenge modes. If you are new, stay here until you can three-star a simple split lane without burning Rain of Fire on goblins.
What you are defending
A stage is a path (sometimes two or three), a handful of build spots, a gold counter, and a life total. Enemies walk the dirt. If they reach the exit, you lose lives. If lives hit zero, the stage fails. Stars usually come from finishing with lives to spare, so a messy win is still a win — it just unlocks fewer upgrades on the global star board.
Genesis uses the classic four families:
- Archer Garrison — cheap, fast, hits flying. Build these first so gold keeps flowing.
- Knights Order — barracks. Soldiers stall. You need them on chokes, not in empty grass.
- Scholar Mage — magic. Armor and shielded casters melt here.
- Royal Catapult — artillery. Slow, expensive, brutal on clumps.
The full game lists 15 towers. The extra eleven (Dwarven Culverin, Elven Elite Ranger, Ironbark Treant, Wildcat Huntresses, Sunray Master, Light Priestess, and the remaining reveals) are upgrades to that language, not a replacement. Read the tower tier list after you can mix the four basics on one map.
First five minutes on a new stage
- Pause and count paths. One path is a stack problem. Two paths is an attention problem.
- Drop an Archer Garrison covering the longest shared segment.
- Drop Knights Order on the tightest choke, not the prettiest hill.
- Send one hero to the choke and the second toward the split. The two-hero system explains why parking both in the same bush leaks the other lane.
- Keep 50–80 gold in the bank for a panic barracks or a last-second archer. Going to zero gold before wave three is how beginners die.
Gerald Lightseeker is the melee default: shield, Sword of Elynie, frontline. Zefira is the battlemage: closer than a typical mage, better at bursting a runner. Their pages — Gerald Lightseeker and Zefira — are the right next reads after this one.
Gold, stars, and the upgrade board
Gold is local to the stage. Stars are campaign currency. You earn stars by clearing stages well, then spend them on the global four-column board (barracks, archers, mages, artillery). Devlog #28 removed the demo’s per-tower XP grind and brought that board back. Heroes and spells still have personal trees, with double XP for anyone behind your highest. The upgrade planner tells you which column to open first.
Do not dump every star into one family. A maxed archer line still loses to heavy armor if you never touched mages. A maxed barracks line still loses to flyers. Spread the first 20–30 stars, then specialize once you know which campaign region you hate.
Spells are loadout, not a third hero
You equip three of nine spells. The opening trio shown in the demo was Reinforcements, Rain of Fire, and Royal Edict.
- Reinforcements: emergency blockers when barracks die.
- Rain of Fire: clumps and high-HP packs.
- Royal Edict: a burst button for a boss or a priority caster.
Waste Rain of Fire on three goblins and you will not have it for the armored rush. The spell tier list ranks the known kit; this beginner page only needs the rule: if the wave is not a crisis, do not press the button.
How to play the first maps
The world map shows three landscapes: green Linirea around the Citadel, the snow of Stormcloud Depths, and the autumn/purple lands of Arcania. Eighteen campaign stages sit on that map. The demo taught four, then six after Ironhide extended it.
- Linirean Citadel — tutorial geometry. Learn rally points.
- Silveroak Village — forest splits. Practice swapping heroes.
- Western Wall — long walls, artillery value, patience.
- Lozagon Tower — a signature set-piece; Iron challenge videos exist for a reason.
Walk those names in the campaign stages guide. Do not jump to Iron until Veteran is clean. Iron mode locks your chosen towers; a bad opener cannot be rebuilt. Classic Mode is a separate nostalgia rule-set that restricts you to the original four towers — read Classic Mode after you miss those four on purpose, not by accident.
Controls in one paragraph
Mouse on PC: click a hero portrait or the hero, click a point on the path. Touch on mobile: tap-to-move. Rally flags on barracks send soldiers. Pause exists; use it. The full table is on Controls. Steam lists a mouse-only option and partial controller support, but tower defense still rewards a pointer.
A simple first build
On a two-path map: two Archer Garrisons on the shared approach, one Knights Order on the choke, one Scholar Mage covering both exits, Royal Catapult only after gold is stable. Heroes split. Reinforcements saved for the barracks wipe. That build is boring and it works. Spice comes from the hero roster once you stop leaking.
What not to do on day one
- Do not sell your only barracks to buy a catapult before the flying wave.
- Do not chase kills with both heroes into fog while the other lane walks free.
- Do not spend all stars before you have seen a mage-armor stage.
- Do not expect Roblox-style redeem codes. Genesis is a premium Ironhide title; rewards are pre-order and wishlist milestones, not daily strings.
When the 24 September 2026 build unlocks, replay this checklist on Veteran, then open Iron mode. The loop does not change. The budget does.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD questions.
Is Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD free to play?
No. Steam lists a premium product. Mobile pre-order was shown around $6.99; some mobile unlocks may use extra IAP while Steam includes the roster.
How many heroes do I bring into a stage?
Two. That is the headline change from older Kingdom Rush entries. Pair a tank with a rover.
Should I play Iron mode first?
No. Clear Veteran with mixed towers first. Iron locks your build and punishes a greedy opener.
